   Charlotte Callens
The painter Charlotte Callens, of Belgian origin, is transporting the spectator, is immersing him into a universe where the colours are sovereign, quasi monochrome, but alive monochromes. Multiple coats, carefully worked and laid on the canvas, sponged up, scraped, covered and covered again, create a great amount of rich textures. It is also an incitation for the eye to plunge into the work, to follow the meanders and the various effects generated, the subtleties, the contrasts of a same tone or the shapes slightly over or under the said tone.

Through her works Charlotte Callens is taking us to the heart of her passion, colour, where everything is calm, serenity, delight, fineness, a dive into the blue of the Nord Sea of her origins. The blue, privileged by the artist, is sometimes simmering, breathing, aerated, aerial, floating, suspended. The alive yellows, the gilded, the oranges or the fire reds have also a large place in her works, inspired by the succession of the months, seasons, days and nights, like for example “Summer”, “Red September”, “February is arriving”, “The night perspires” or “The day will come”.

A series of paintings, with geometric forms is another aspect of the work of Charlotte Callens, alternating coloured fields and structured areas with adroitness and know how, executed with the same care than the monochrome canvases. This is an astonishing journey in the heart of the emotional power of colour and painting.
An attractive catalogue accompanies the exhibition, showing the major part of the exhibited works.

Charlotte Callens is graduated from the Institut Supérieur des Sciences Humaines Appliquées (ISSHA) of Brussels and from the Fine Arts School of Wavre (Belgium).
